Given enough time, everything that can go wrong will go wrong. After 10 years and more than 250 conferences, I'll discuss the curveballs the universe has thrown, and how, despite all that, us volunteers still managed to whack it out of the park.
It's been almost 10 years to the day when I first started filming conferences. During that time I helped film over 300 of them, being personally present for more than 250. I've experienced the many, many unexpected ways in which a conference goes sideways. And usually, the attendees won't notice a thing other than the organiser not being seen - they're backstage trying to manage the crisis. In this talk I will discuss a number of the situations that us volunteers had to deal with as discreetly as possible to ensure you experienced the best event we could manage. Come join me and experience a hefty dose of schadenfreude.
Most people will know him as the guy that records the talks at many, many conferences all over the planet. What people don't typically realise is that he does this as volunteer, same as all the other helpers. He somehow manages to balance this with his full-time day job is as senior software developer for a company making software for mental healthcare hospitals.
