Car Hacking Village
Copper Horse will be running the Car Hacking Village again this year and will be bringing along their car hacking simulator rig.
@mintynet & Bigi will be back with PD0 'Car in a box' which thinks it's a fully working car, which can be hacked.
Have a look at how AI can be used to find tampered street signs and how that AI can be tampered with to create interesting consequences!
There is also 'Meet the driver' with Sophia McCall, see if you can beat Sophia McCall up the hill or try our fastest lap competition and see if you can beat some of the best sim racers in the hacking world
Learn from Andy Guest about vehicle data extraction for forensics and have a look at the tools used!.
This was built as part of an Innovate UK project looking at embedded systems hacking in vehicles and how that could be fixed for the future. The rig serves as a research platform, but is also used for the Copper Horse sim racing team! It has a real vehicle CANbus network which takes telemetry from a variety of simulators and games, with the hardware fully controllable – for example the pedals can be controlled via a hacking box, meaning that people in the driving seat can experience what it is like to have a malicious actor remotely control the vehicle they’re in. The rig is currently being used as part of a research project on developing a Trusted AI Bill of Materials (TAIBOM) – with a vision model for detecting tampered or manipulated street signs within the simulator.
The village will also provide some interactive CANbus and component hacking, allowing visitors to understand a bit more about what goes on inside a car and why future vehicles need securing properly.
We’ll also be raising money for Cancer Research UK: https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/
