It's happening. Plans to push the Digital ID have already been announced. Perhaps you signed the petition, rallied against it on social media and hurled a lot of expletives towards the politicians planning it. Or, on the contrary: you have no idea what's the big deal.
Regardless of your stance, you will learn what problems the digital (or physical) ID can solve and what it's useless for. You will also learn how it played out in practice in other countries, and whether that improved the interaction between the government entities and private citizens. You will also find out how the introduction of such ID changed the relationship between customers and corporations.
The main reason for the talk is to aim people with facts regarding the digital ID, so they can make up their own mind. Unfortunately, the discussion is centred mainly on the aspects of life the digital ID cannot change. However, there are some ways in which it can improve life, if implemented correctly.
The talk will first examine the difference between attitudes towards digital ID in Anglo-Saxon nations and the rest of the world, and explore historical differences that shaped the attitudes.
Then, real world examples will be used to illustrate how the technology can help. Failures will also be discussed, including China as a real-world example how this concept can escalate. We'll explore potential safeguarding that can be put in place, practical implications, and threats to privacy and data security.
Finally, we'll also explore what issues the digital ID cannot solve, and how the existence of such digital ID (and lax implementation) changed the relationship between private enterprise and the citizens, limiting their privacy and potentially exposing them to abuse.
